Racing Pigeon Sex Gene Identification

Sex Determination Of Homing Pigeon

Based on fluorescence quantitative PCR gene detection technology, the CHD-W conserved gene in the feathers and blood samples of racing pigeons is detected to determine the sex of the racing pigeon, with an accuracy rate of 99.99%.

Sampling Guide & Testing Standards

Standardized Sampling and Precision Testing Specifications

How to distinguish the sex of homing pigeons has always been a problem for pigeon breeders. When young pigeons are not yet fully mature, it is difficult to judge accurately through external characteristics, especially since some female pigeons look male and some male pigeons look female, making it impossible to tell.

Currently, the most accurate method is sex gene identification. Extract DNA from pigeon feathers, use a multi-channel real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR instrument to specifically amplify pigeon sex chromosomes, and accurately identify the sex of homing pigeons through fluorescent probe gene detection, with an accuracy rate of up to 99.9%!

Process for sending samples to the laboratory:

1. Place an order

2. Directly pluck feathers and send them to the laboratory

3. Wait for the result notification

Feather collection:

1. Wash hands thoroughly before sampling. Pluck 4-6 feathers and let them air dry slightly, then place them in a clean self-sealing sample bag. Be careful to avoid contaminating the feather roots. Try to pluck larger feathers such as those from the wings, wing coverts, and chest to ensure detection success rate.

2. Seal the sample bag and use a marker to write sample information on the surface of the sealed bag (such as ring number, test item, etc.)

Regarding feather sample collection from 0-day-old squabs:

1. Since the yellow down of 0-day-old squabs is very fine, please pluck at least 6-10 feathers. Be gentle to avoid breaking them. Only down with roots (follicle tissue) can be detected.

2. Squab down is fine and requires special sample collection tubes for storage and shipping. Please place an order and pay at least one week before the squab hatches. We will then send the sample collection tube kit to you as soon as possible, so you can collect the down samples on the day of hatching and send them promptly.

After receiving the squab down samples, we will process and test them immediately. The processing and testing of the samples will be completed within 7-10 working days, and an identification report will be issued, allowing you to select young racers at the earliest opportunity.
